Krav Maga is still used by the Israel Defence Forces and adopted by law enforcement, FBI and US Military.

What is Krav Maga?

Krav Maga is a Hebrew term meaning contact fighting, the origins of which date back to the times of the Old Testament. Krav Maga has borrowed many techniques from other martial arts and includes elements from boxing, Muay Thai, Aikido, Judo and Jiu Jitsu although the training is often quite different. Unlike the set routines and choreographed moves in martial arts. Krav Maga teaches realistic fighting and self-defence, even in conditions of stress and exhaustion.

What is Krav Maga N.I.?

Within Krav Maga N.I. (KMNI) we have taken and adopted established tried and tested methods from Traditional KM, Commando Krav Maga and the established techniques from the Fairburn Sykes style of military fighting system as used by British and American Special forces since the days of the S.O.E. (Special Operations Executive)

We are affilated to IKMA (Glyn Ashton our main instructor is the IKMA Director for Northern Ireland) however, we are free to adopt and adapt techniques as and when we see a need or place for them.

KMNI Instructor - Glyn Ashton

The main KMNI instructor is Glyn Ashton (Director IKMA NI). Glyn trained in traditional style Jiu Jitsu for 5 years achieving 1st dan followed by a further 5 years with BJJ (blue belt) and a mix of other styles. He has taught self defence to several groups, however he moved to Commando Krav Maga (CKM) after researcing reality based systems. As part of Glyn's natural progression he has now founded KMNI (an organisation not affiliated with CKM) aimed at incorporating and simplifying mixed martial arts for street self defence.

Glyn's moto "full commitment, strike hard, strike fast and stay alive."

KMNI Training

KMNI is all about making people feel safer. We take the best "tried and proven" techniques from other martial arts and incorportate them into realistic and proven fighting techniques that empower the individual. We run an open policy and welcome anyone with the right attitude to train with us. We aim to train hard but safetly. The class comprises a dynamic range of ages, sizes and experience and is open to both male and female participants. We always welcome new members and aim to have them adding genuine value to the classes from as early as possible! There are two distinct training regimes within KMNI:

        Conditioning Training:

This not only helps your endurance but has the added benefit that it can contribute to weight loss.

        No Holds Barred (NHB) Training:

With any traditional martial art, there are rules. With KM there are no rules making it a pure NHB style. This is to ensure maximum damage to your attacker, in the quickest time, to allow you to escape and possibily save your life or the life of your loved ones. Our class is especially good for students wishing to learn a mixed martial art style fighting system but who want to do it for street defence rather than competition fighting.

No previous martial arts experience is necessary, we have found a lot of members are nervous about coming down because they have no past experience of martial arts. This is fine and is one of the beauties of KM - no previous experience of martial arts is needed, you will be trained in everything you need to be able to protect yourself in real life situations. Everyone is welcome to come down and train with us, you can also come down to just watch the class to give yourselves an idea of the system before stepping onto the mats and joining in. We hope to see you there! NEWS: Add us on Facebook! Krav Maga Northern Ireland for the latest news.
